Things to Do in New Braunfels This October (2026 Guide)

October might be the best month of the year to live in New Braunfels. The heat finally breaks, the river is still beautiful, and the calendar fills up fast. Here's what's happening around town this month.

Gruene Music & Wine Fest (40th Annual)

Oct. 8 to 11 · Gruene Hall, 1281 Gruene Rd.

The big one. Four days of live music, Texas wine and craft beer tastings in the Gruene Historic District. This year's lineup includes Robert Earl Keen, Shane Smith & the Saints, The SteelDrivers, and Dos Borrachos (Kevin Fowler and Roger Creager). Ticket prices vary by event, so grab yours early at gruenemusicandwinefest.org.

Soul Searching: Comal Cemetery Tours

Oct. 16 and 17, 6 to 8:45 p.m. · Comal Cemetery, 301 Peace Ave.

Actors bring some of New Braunfels' most notable early residents back to life on these hour-long tours. Walk it for $20 or ride a golf cart for $25. It's a great way to learn the town's history, and just spooky enough for October.

Día de los Muertos Festival (10th Annual)

Oct. 17, noon to 10 p.m. · Main Plaza

Free and family-friendly, with live music, dancing, food trucks, face painting, art activities and vendor booths right downtown.

Gruene Market Days

Oct. 17 and 18 · Gruene Historic District

Gruene's maker and artisan market runs the third full weekend of the month from February through November. It makes a good pairing with the Día de los Muertos festival that same Saturday.

Texas Clay Festival (34th Annual)

Oct. 24 and 25 · Gruene Historic District

More than 80 Texas clay artists show and sell their work, with live demonstrations all weekend. Admission is free.

New Braunfels Train Show

Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Oct. 25, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. · Civic & Convention Center, 375 S. Castell Ave.

Model railroads, vendors and hands-on activities for kids. Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and up, $8 for active-duty military, $5 for ages 5 to 12, and free for kids under 5. Proceeds benefit the New Braunfels Railroad Museum.

Hill Country Music Jam

Oct. 24, 6 to 9:30 p.m. · Toddcoe Aviation Hangar, New Braunfels National Airport

Live music, an open bar, live auctions and raffles, all benefiting Comal Conservation. General admission is $75 and VIP is $125.

Two Rivers Half Marathon & Ryan Bielke 5K

Oct. 25, 7:30 a.m. · Mountain Valley Middle School, Canyon Lake

The half marathon follows the Guadalupe River from Sattler to KL Ranch Camp Cliffside. Registration runs $40 to $150 depending on the race, and proceeds go to the Today I Get to Run Scholarship Fund.

Downtown Spooktacular

Oct. 29, 5 to 7 p.m. · Main Plaza

Kids trick-or-treat at downtown businesses, with police, fire and city crews joining in. It's free, and there's free parking with a shuttle from City Hall.

Coming up: Wurstfest, Nov. 6 to 15

Mark your calendar for the 65th annual Wurstfest at Landa Park, with five stages of live music, sausage, polka and a new German Weingarten this year. Admission is free Nov. 9 to 12, and kids 12 and under are always free.
